How I save money- I make my own ice blocks.
I save ALL plastic food containers that come thru our house, fill them with water and put them in the freezer. The next day, I dump them in the cooler, fill them up again and back in the freezer they go.
My husband uses an ice cooler almost every day for drinks and frog toggs so this saves us lots of money on ice. If he happens to want it to eat during the day I simply wrap a hammer in a ziplock bag and beat the block until the pieces can be put in a cup. I have found that containers that aren't made to go in the freezer (sour cream, dip etc) can only be used a few times before they crack.
(If you're planning a summer vacation and taking a cooler, consider this tip instead of buying bagged ice!)
Thanks Jessica!
